Though this is hard for some audiences (and reviewers) to believe, the company’s work is entirely improvised. Our techniques, developed over hundreds of performances, are driven by openness, listening, emotional authenticity and (rare on an opera stage) a willingness to fail. The results are very funny and intensely emotional by turns.
Show format Thanks to its improvised nature, the stage show is supremely adaptable.
The typical format is in two parts. The first consists of games and numbers which involve the audience and give a taste of the techniques we use. The second part is a sung-through opera invented in its entirety from the audience’s suggestions.
Recently however, we've been inspired to attempt a full sung through opera...hence 'Nonstopera'! This is a new and exciting (and rather challenging) format for us that we are looking forward to tackling in our upcoming season.
